Zoning board — Meets at City Hall at 7 p.m. on Oct. 28.

City Council — Meets at City Hall at 7 p.m. on Oct. 21.

Board of Education — Meets at the Middle School auditorium on Nov. 9, at 7:30 p.m.

West End Neighbors Civic Assoc. — Meets Wednesday, October 27, 7 p.m., at the West End Community Center on Maryland Avenue.

Special Events and Information

Ticket boot service cuts and ltd. LIRR service — The Long Beach Railroad station has cut ticketbooth hours from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. Commuters are urged to use MTA.com to buy tickets on line or at the easy-to-use machines at the station. Tickets bought on board the train are available at an additional cost to riders.

Also, The LIRR said that due to a major signal modernization, very limited service will take place over the weekends of October 23 and 24 and November 6 and 7 for all branches of the railroad. There will be no train or bus service to Brooklyn. The LIRR suggests that customers travel by railroad for essential business only on those two weekends.

Art in the Plaza — Art in the Plaza will take place at Kennedy Plaza in Long Beach Art in the Plaza will take place at Kennedy Plaza in Long Beach (almost) every Sunday from May 16 through Nov. 14, 2010. The event will not take place on Oct. 10 due to the Fall Festival. Visit the plaza to view, purchase or just appreciate all types of mediums. Oils, acrylics, watercolors, pastels, mixed media, photography, sculpture and more will be displayed. Each week different artists will exhibit their works giving residents and visitors the opportunity to experience visual arts from our talented local art leagues.
