The Long Beach City Council Thursday night voted at a special session to reject a proposal to pay $75,000 to settle a complaint by an attorney in the city corporation counsel's office.

The proposal was to pay the $75,000 to Megan Conger.

The details of Ms. Conger's case were not specified in the city council's agenda. Councilman Scott Mandel said at the meeting that "There has been an investigation into this matter" and it was said to be unfounded.

Council members then voted no. Councilman Michael DeDlury asked if he could change his vote. "To vote no means we are rejecting" this proposal, he asked.

The meeting was on FB, and his next response was not entirely clear, but he appeared to be joining the others in a no vote.

John McNally, executive assistant to the Long Beach city manager, said he could not comment on the matter because it was a personnel matter.

A source close to the city, however, said Ms. Conger had sought a $10,000 pay raise after two men in her department had been given raises. She was supported by her supervisor. But the supervisor wanted to take the issue to the city council.

The source said that the council heard the matter and turned Ms. Conger down. She had filed a complaint with long Beach's Equal Opportunity Employment Officer in February, The council was asked Thursday night to act on the proposal to pay her the $75,000.

Ms. Conger could not be reached for comment.
