Long Beach Police officer stabbed

A Long Beach police officer was stabbed when he attempted to subdue a woman on June 3.

According to the Long Beach Police Department, the Long Beach Fire Department was at home on West Market Street and requested police assistance with a female mental aided case that they were attempting to treat, and officer James Larson arrived on the scene at about 8:37 a.m. on June 3. When Larson attempted to control the woman, she abruptly attacked him with a pair of scissors, stabbing and biting the officer. After a brief struggle, and with the assistance of officer Joel Abramson, Larson was able to subdue and control her.

Larson sustained lacerations and punctures to both his forearms and ankle, and was transported to the Long Beach Medical Center, where he was treated.

The woman was unharmed but was arrested and charged with second-degree assault, resisting arrest and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon.
