Summer has come to an end, and that means the City of Long Beach is busy making preparations for its 14th annual Fall Festival. The festival will take place on Saturday and Sunday, October 9 and 10 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Kennedy Plaza on Park Avenue and National Boulevard.

“Each year, the festival provides two days of family fun with activities, rides, crafts and a variety of food to choose from,” said Long Beach City Council President Thomas Sofield Jr. “Parents can spend quality time with their children picking pumpkins, going on rides or creating art in the Kids Korner. The Kennedy Plaza Farmers Market, crafts and other specialty items will be for sale in the big tent. There is something for everyone at Fall Festival.”

The event includes a pumpkin patch, puppet shows, arts and crafts, carousel, hay wagon and fire engine rides, among other festival activities. Adults can purchase foods or indulge in seasonal treats, while listening to live music featuring John Roper & the Bob Knight Four, the Long Island Harmonizers Chorus, the Sweet Adeline’s-Greater Nassau Chorus and the Long Island Banjo Association.

Vendors from the Kennedy Plaza Farmers Market will offer fresh produce, breads and pies. Wine tastings and delicious local restaurant specialties from Atlantica at the Allegria, the Beach House, Blue Point Inn, Lola’s, Mulberry Street, Sugo, Himawari, La Bottega and Paninis & Bikinis will take place in the Food & Wine Tent. An array of food vendors will also be on hand serving international fare along National Blvd. and on Centre Street.

At Noon on Saturday, children in costumes will parade from the Recreation Center to Kennedy Plaza. Awards for best costumes will be given and each child will receive special treats. Also on Saturday, the Long Beach Police Department will hold its bicycle registration on the eastside lawn of Kennedy Plaza, and on Sunday, free fingerprinting will be offered for children grades K-1st in the lobby of City Hall as part of LBPD’s Operation Safe Child.
