Long Beach resident Sandy Solo was honored by the City of Long Beach for his 100th birthday earlier this month. He was met by City Manager Donna Gayden and the City Council.
Gayden and the council presented Solo with a proclamation from the city. The city honors all residents who reach this milestone with a proclamation.
Solo proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1942 to 1947 and received the Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal and a Presidential Citation for his actions while in service.
Solo was hired by the city in 1971, by then-City Manager Peter Korn, as a Service Assistant in the Public Information Department and worked for Long Beach until his retirement in April 1989.
