Long Beach students thank firefighters

Maxwell King was sound asleep in the early morning hours of July 26 when Long Beach Firefighter Anthony Fallon woke him to rescue him and his mother, Glenna, from an electrical fire in their apartment. Maxwell’s classmates at the Long Beach Public Schools Special Education Summer Program decided they wanted to do something special to show their gratitude, so they created a special plaque, containing all their handprints, with the inscription “Thank You LBFD for helping our friend Maxwell King.” Then they took a trip to the firehouse with Maxwell and his parents to deliver the plaque in person.

Firefighter Fallon let Maxwell climb aboard a fire truck with him, and even allowed Maxwell and his classmates to practice using a real fire hose outside the firehouse, making it a memorable occasion for all.

“This is great,” said Fallon, as Maxwell handed him the plaque, along with a big hug. “We will find a special place for this in the firehouse.”
