The Inn held its fifth annual fundraiser on July 13 to raise money for the Long Beach Waterfront Warriors, with proceeds supporting a trip to Long Beach for wounded soldiers and their families July 20-24. The restaurant’s staff also donated its time and tips for the day.
Prizes were raffled and auctioned off, with locals winning a custom surfboard designed by Skudin Surf and Unsound Surf, as well as a paddleboard, a weeklong trip to Rincon, Puerto Rico and other prizes. During the event, Rob Kennedy of the Council of Airline Maintenance Managers presented a check for $3,000 to the LBWW board. The money was raised during an annual golf tournament held with his fellow members at Lido Golf Club on June 20.
In cooperation with the City of Long Beach, LBWW will hold a 5K race for the soldiers on Sunday, July 21 at 8 a.m. starting at the Long Beach Catholic Regional School parking lot. Applications for the race are available the Long Beach Recreation Center. At 3 p.m., the annual Welcome Parade for the soldiers will take place and proceed from Ohio Avenue to New York Avenue along Beech Street, followed by a barbecue at Long Beach Catholic Regional School.
The annual visit is being organized by the Long Beach Waterfront Warriors organization with officials from the Walter Reed Medical National Military Medical Center, who will plan the visits for soldiers to the city. While the soldiers are in Long Beach, their families will be treated to beach events, surfing lessons, barbecues and a trip to New York City.
Additionally, the LBWW have provided veterans with emergency medical services and evaluations along with an annual holiday fund drive. Over 95 percent of donations to the LBWW go directly to support the men and women in the armed forces.
