Loop Parkway construction closes single travel lane

Posted

On March 16, the New York State Department of Transportation announced that the single right travel lane would be closed on the westbound Loop Parkway Drawbridge and would remain closed for approximately four days. A single westbound lane remains open to motorists along with the two eastbound travel lanes. The bridge is still operating to accommodate mariners. This around-the-clock closure is needed to complete preventive maintenance repairs to the 75-year old Draw Bridge and help assure its continued, safe operation. Local emergency service providers, officials and area schools have been notified of this single travel lane closure. Motorists are being warned in advance of the closure via electronic roadway signs.

To avoid possible travel delays, the Long Beach Road or Atlantic Beach bridges may be used as alternative routes. As with most road and bridge projects, this bridge repair operation may be cancelled, postponed, or prolonged due to inclement weather. For 24/7 up-to-date traffic and travel information, motorists should call 511 or visit www.511NY.org. In addition, travel information can be obtained from the INFORM Transportation Management Center cameras at www.INFORMNY.com and on their hand held communication devices at www.INFORMNY.mobi.

Motorists are reminded that fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone. In accordance with the Work Zone Safety Act of 2005, convictions of two or more speeding violations in a work zone could result in the suspension of an individual’s driver’s license.

The New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) appreciates the patience and cooperation of motorists and the local communities while this preventive maintenance repair is undertaken to help assure the continued protection of all motorists.
