The Loop Parkway Drawbridge will be completely closed to motorists beginning 10 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 15, and continuing "round the clock" through 5 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 20.
According to the New York State Department of transportation, the full closure is essential and cannot be delayed. The bridge must undergo a preventive maintenance repair which, if delayed, could have a long term affect on the safe operation of the 75-year-old drawbridge. Local emergency service providers, officials and area schools have been notified of the night-time closures. Motorists are being warned in advance of the closures via electronic roadway signs. Long Creek Channel access will remain open to mariners.
The Long Beach Road or Atlantic Beach bridges should be used as alternative routes. As with most road and bridge projects, this inspection operation may be cancelled, postponed, or prolonged due to inclement weather.
