More than 260 people joined the Friends of Mercy Medical Center for its annual Luau at the Ocean Club in Atlantic Beach on June 22.
The event, labeled a “friend-raiser,” featured Hawaiian-inspired cuisine, including surf, turf and exotic cocktails. More than $11,000 was granted to attendees in a reverse raffle drawing, during which the last 12 tickets selected were the winners. The holder of the last one called won $7,500.
Rockville Centre residents Andrew E. Healey & Bryan Madden chaired the event, which in total, raised more than $15,000. Proceeds went to Mercy’s purchase of a molecular breast imaging machine — to improve its ability to detect cancer — which the medical center unveiled last week.
