Writing on the wall
Since then, East Rockaway and Lynbrook have certainly lived up to my predictions - there have been many ups and downs, including volatile village board meetings, proud parents as their children won school and athletic awards, births, deaths, and newsworthy happenings within our borders, and sometimes expanding outside.
This issue is dedicated to bringing you the year in pictures. By no means did we intend to leave anyone out. Sometimes it just depends on the quality of the photo and how it tells the story. Just to make sure we cover most of it, below is a Year in Review, a brief synopsis of 2006 in our villages.
What does 2007 have in store for us? Well, we know that both villages will have new mayors - and they will have a lot to live up to. Goodbye Eugene Scarpato and Joseph Carrigan - you have served your villages well, and we will miss you. The new slate of candidates is hoping to follow in your footsteps, or, in some cases, they want to make changes that they feel are necessary. That is what good politics is all about, right?
We can always count on our wonderful children to win more awards for both academics and athletics - or to do something else that we think is newsworthy. Not all of our kids are award winners, but some are wonderful people who do great things for their communities. We will publish as many as we can, because we know you like to see their faces on these pages - and so do I.
Which brings me to you, the reader. When I became editor, I wrote that I wanted an interactive newspaper - and you certainly listened. Your calls, letters and E-mails makes this paper what it is - with a little help from our editorial, production and sales staff. Let me know what is going on in your world, and I'll pass it on.
Here's to a very happy, healthy (dare I say interesting?) new year. Best wishes to you and your family from the Lynbrook/East Rockaway Herald.
