The Lynbrook school district has approved its proposed budget for the 2014-15 year, and will present the $77.2 to the public for a vote on May 20. The budget is an increase of 1.35 percent over the current plan. The tax levy increase, 1.46 percent, is the total amount of money raised through property taxes. This is the maximum allowable tax levy limit as per NYS Law, enacted in 2011. Because the district stayed within the guidelines, the budget will have to be approved by the voters with a simple majority.
The budget pays for facility upgrades, administrative costs, communications, athletics, fine and performing arts, special education, debts, benefits, special programs and salaries (contractual obligations) — among other things.
To reduce costs, the district said that is it using cooperative bidding with other districts for transporation, products, furniture, insurance and fuel.
Propositions 2, 3
Proposition 2 will ask voters for permission to use $300,000 from the Technology Replacement Fund. This will allow the district to begin work on the classroom projector cycle, computers and to continue implementing infrastructure for off-site disaster recovery. There is now $1.1 million in this fund.
