Raymond J. Burke was sworn in as Chief Engineer of the Lynbrook Fire Department for the upcoming year by Lynbrook Mayor Brian Curran at the Fire Council meeting on April 18. Burke has been a deputy chief for the past three years.
Burke joined Vulcan Company of the Lynbrook Fire Department in August 1972 until he moved to Hewlett in 1977, and served two years in that department. In July 1978, Burke and wife, Maria, bought a house on Lawrence Avenue in Lynbrook and rejoined the Lynbrook Fire Department, this time joining Hose Company 1 on Blake Avenue in August 1978. He was both an EMT and AEMT from 1974 to 1986. He was then elected an officer of Hose Company in 1986 and served as company captain from 1988 to 1990. He served as secretary from 1998 to 2003. Chief Burke was elected by the department membership as a deputy chief in 2007.
Burke attended Our Lady of Peace and graduated from Lynbrook High School in 1971. He has been a Tech Support Representative for Cablevision since 2003 after being a small business owner for thirteen years. He and his wife, Maria have two daughters: Tracey, the captain of the Lynbrook’s Emergency Medical Company and employed as a rescue paramedic with FDNY, and Jackie, who holds a Masters Degree from Marist College, teaches special education to children with autism.
The other deputy chiefs sworn in for the coming year were First Deputy Chief Michael Hynes of Engine Company; Second Deputy Chief Anthony DeCarlo of Tally-Ho; and Third Deputy Chief Edward Hynes of Engine Company.
