According to Weissman's sister Natalie, he was born on Sept. 7, 1922, and graduated Lynbrook Schools. He served in the United States Army Signal Corps. under General George Marshall, and while overseas established a school for Jewish children interned by the Japanese. Upon his return stateside, he attended Adelphi University and then entered his father's well-established insurance business, Samuel Weissman Insurance, Inc. on Broadway in Lynbrook.
"Stanley loved being here and working with people," said Michael Gromet, who began working for Weissman in 1980 and became his partner in the insurance business in 1986. "To meet and help people was his joy."
The insurance agency was also family to Weissman, as his brothers Alfred and Leroy and sister Natalie worked there as well. Today, the office is staffed not only by Natalie but by Weissman's nephews, too.
According to Natalie, Weissman lived in the "family homestead" on Scranton Avenue in Lynbrook until he and his wife, Seena retired to Delray Beach, Florida several years ago.
"They had a good life and split their time between Delray Beach and Margate City, New Jersey once they retired," said Natalie. "They had so many friends."
Natalie said her brother was very involved in Temple Emanu-el in Lynbrook, where he taught religious education for over 25 years and is past chancellor-commander of the Knights of Pythias.
Weissman is survived by his devoted wife of 51 years, Seena, former editor of the Lynbrook News published by Richner Communications, which is now part of the Lynbrook/East Rockaway Herald.
He is also survived by his daughter Robin, son-in-law Dr. Sam Wasser, and grandchildren Melissa and Jon. He is the loving brother of Natalie and Al and the late Leroy; brother-in-law to Janet and Joan and remembered lovingly by many nieces and nephews.
Services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 10, at the Boulevard - Riverside Chapel, Hewlett. Interment Mount Ararat.
