Matthew Sarosy has been appointed to serve as an assistant principal of Lynbrook High School, filling the vacancy left by retiring Assistant Principal Angelo Mancuso.
Although students will surely miss Mancuso’s familiar face (he served the district for 43 years), many will also find a familiar face in Sarosy, who has taught American history at Lynbrook North Middle School since 2006.
In 2010 Sarosy assumed the added responsibilities of teacher-in-charge for that school, handling all disciplinary matters. He worked cooperatively with administrators and parents to implement a district code of conduct and also assisted in the implementation of the building’s character education program. In addition, he served as incident commander in all emergency situations. He was named a 2012 Lynbrook PTA Founders Day honoree. Prior to his tenure at North Middle, he taught history at The Mary Louis Academy in Jamaica Estates.
Sarosy received his bachelor’s degree in history from St. John’s University and went on to complete his master’s degree in adult education at Buffalo State College. He earned his school district leader and school building leader certificates from CW Post LIU. “I am both grateful and excited for the opportunity to serve the Lynbrook community in this new capacity,” Sarosy said.
