Lynbrook, Malverne young women honored for achieving Girl Scouting's highest honor

Posted

The ELLM Association of Girl Scouts honored four girls from the area by awarding them the Gold Award, the highest earned achievement in Girl Scouts. The ceremony was held on June 25 in Lynbrook High School auditorium.

Earning of the Gold Award is a tremendous accomplishment and is equivalent to achieving the rank of Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts. This year, the girls’ projects foster leadership and organizational skills and a sense of community and commitment. Achievement of the Gold Award sets the foundation for a lifetime of active citizenship.

Gold Award projects create a vision for change in the Girl Scout’s community. Girls must work both within and go beyond their contacts in Girl Scouting to develop a project that leads to sustainable improvement. Their projects help to educate others on important issues and to encourage them to continue the goals of the project.

The girls were also awarded with citations from local, Town and State officials. In addition to those pictured, the attendees included Sr. Joanne Forker, principal of Sacred Heart Academy, Jacqueline Klimkowski, a teacher representing  Kellenberg Memorial High School; Malverne Mayor Patricia McDonald Irene Villacci, representing Senator Dean Skelos, Chief Anthony DeCarlo of the Lynbrook Fire Department and Donna Ceravolo, CEO-Girl Scouts of Nassau County.  William Vincent (father of Gold Awardee Megan Ann Vincent) represented the Knights of Columbus Council #2228.
