To date, Lynbrook resident Annie Calvo, 51, is one of three finalists in a nationwide competition to appear and sing on the popular soap opera “As The World Turns.” The contest is sponsored by CBS TV. Calvo sang the old standard, “You Made Me Love You” for her audition video.
Annie, who has been singing since she was 12 and is a member of the choir at Our Lady of Peace Church in Lynbrook, works for the Nassau County Police Department. “I’ve was watching the show and saw their call to send in videos,” said Calvo. “One of the characters is celebrating 50 years on the show, and the winner will be singing with her in a May episode.”
Calvo, who grew up in Freeport, moved to Lynbrook in 1995 and married her husband, Alex, in 2003. The couple play in a band called “Where’s Ringo,” with Jennifer Grabowsl and Michael Gellman. The group plays Motown, 60s, 70s, and classic music and they appear at local clubs, and restaurants. She enjoys jazz music, and her influences include artists Roy Orbison and Barry Manilow.
