Inspired by the photographs of Old Westbury Gardens’ founder Peggie Phipps Boegner and her cousins, the Gardens are adorned for a summer celebration Friday, and Saturday, June 24-25.
It’s a chance to enjoy the Gardens in the evening, beautifully decorated and illuminated by lanterns, as sounds of music fill the air.
Friday features “Midsummer Jazz.” Stroll the Walled Garden and listen to the cool sounds of live jazz, from 7-10 p.m. Along with the music, enjoy enjoy appetizers and local wines and microbrews. Admission is $25. Advance registration is required.
“Midsummer Night” on Saturday, includes music and dance performances Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream Bring a blanket and picnic dinners and enjoy music and dance performances by Dance Visions, 6-9 p.m. The gardens are illuminated with lanterns and decorated by magical faeries during this enchanted evening. The charming program includes an original excerpt to Mendelssohn’s Midsummer Night’s Dream, dances to Gluck operas including Orpheus in the underworld, Chopin waltzes and mazurkas, Strauss’ Roses from the South, and the glorious Schubert Symphony in C.
Admission is $15 at gate, $12 in advance; free for children 17 and under when accompanied by an adult.
