Mall saleEscapes nightclub loses lease

"We're basically exploring the option to sell the mall," said Fields. "I was approached with a solid offer."
The Fieldses and their partners from GCF Capital bought the mall last September. Located between Hewlett and Merrick avenues, the property includes Stop & Shop, CVS and other, smaller stores. It's had a history of complaints from civic leaders and residents. Their gripes have included foul smells, potholes in the parking lot, crumbling plaster on buildings and generally unkempt conditions.
Of greater concern has been the Escapes Nightclub, which is also in the mall. Neighbors have complained about loud noise at the club and a poorly maintained dumpster there. Fields said he would not renew the club's lease, which is up at the end of December. When contacted, an Escapes representative declined comment.
After Protracted negotiations between the Fieldses and Stop & Shop representatives, the grocery store was given a new lease, which will include a significantly larger store. "Stop & Shop is going to try to expand into Escapes if they can get the proper permits," said Fields. "The new lease allows them up to 18 months to explore this option."
