Ben Ashkenazy, a former Lawrence resident and principal of the Manhattan-based Ashkenazy Acquisition Corp, the owner of commercial property across the country, has purchased the 300,000-square-foot shopping center on Rockaway Turnpike from Leucadia National Corp.
About two years ago, the shopping center entered into Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings, which was filed only weeks after one of its major tenants, Service Merchandise, announced that it was closing after 17 years.
