Malverne elementary school to get new playgrounds

Posted
The initiative was started by a playground committee, who continued to raise the idea of reconstructing the playground with a strong showing at four consecutive meetings board meetings.
The 20-year-old playground has a number of problems, which encouraged members of the playground committee, parents and residents to push for its refurbishment. Some of the attractions at the playground are made with outdated treated wood, which contains potentially hazardous chemicals and graffiti continues to plague various parts of the playing field.
The specifics about the playground¹s reconstruction will be announced in the near future, according to Dr. Mary Ellen Freely, the school¹s superintendent.
There is also a friendly donation competition taking place between New York State Assemblywoman Earlene Hooper and New York State Assemblyman Bob Barra with this playground project. Barra has agreed to match any funds that Hooper donates to the project. Hooper could not be reached for comment.
The budget also set aside money for a new playground at the Davison Avenue Elementary School.
