Malverne Superintendent Resigns

Interim Superintendent named; search begins

Malverne School District Superintendent Peter Scordo has resigned to accept a new position closer to his Suffolk County home. In response to his resignation, which was effective August 4, the Malverne Board of Education has launched an extensive search to find a new Superintendent, while also appointing Dr. Robert D. Pinckney as interim Superintendent of Schools for the upcoming school year. Dr. Pinckney was officially sworn in at Monday's Board of Education meeting in the high school library.
"I wish Peter the best of luck in his future endeavors" said Karen Aker, President of Malverne's Board of Education. Mr. Scordo was Superintendent of Malverne Schools since 1997. Ms. Aker described Peter Scordo as one who established the track work for improvements in the success and quality of education for students. Ms. Aker is insistent on continuing that progress.
"The Board of Education will go to great lengths during the upcoming interview process to ensure that our next superintendent will continue our growth as an academically sound school district". she said.
Mr. Scordo is leaving Malverne to become the first Superintendent of the newly-established Eastport/South Manorville Central High School District, a district much closer to his Sayville home. The outgoing superintendent claims his decision to leave was based solely on travel time and proximity, as his daily trek became too difficult. Mr. Scordo remains grateful to Malverne, and thanked the Board of Education for it's support.
"There are many people that I owe a debt of gratitude for their efforts in moving the (Malverne) school district forward toward the goal of student success. I salute each and every one of them," he stated.
Interim Superintendent Dr. Robert Pinckney is no stranger to Malverne Schools. He previously spent three years as Principal of Malverne Middle School, and one year as Assistant Principal for Malverne High School. Dr. Pinckney retired this past year from his position as Westbury Superintendent of Schools.
The district is currently interviewing candidates for the position of permanent Superintendent, and announced Monday the hiring of a consulting company to aid in it's search.
