A man was arrested at the Green Acres Mall on June 14 after he was observed by store security in Kohl’s department store with a screwdriver, allegedly with the intent to pry open a cash register, police said.
The security officers allegedly recognized Henry Bryer, 57, of Roosevelt, as the same man who pried open a register and stole cash in a previous incident. The officers called 911 and police arrested Bryer without incident.
Police said that after a subsequent investigation, Bryer was charged with five similar larcenies at the following locations:
n Macy’s at the Roosevelt Field Mall on May 28
n Kohl’s at the Green Acres Mall on May 29
n JC Penney at the Sunrise Mall on May 31
n Macy’s at the Green Acres Mall on June 9
n Sears at the Green Acres Mall on June 11
Bryer was charged with two counts of third-degree criminal mischief, five counts of petit larceny and possession of burglar’s tools. He was arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead on June 15.
