Nassau County Police, responding to a distress call for a boat taking on water in Reynolds Channel off Point Lookout on Monday night, arrested and charged a South Hempstead man for criminal possession of a weapon and boating while intoxicated.
According to detectives, Eric S. Monahan, 26, of Woodland Drive, was charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, boating while intoxicated, and operating an unregistered vessel.
The Nassau County Marine Bureau unit responded to the call for the sinking boat at 9:30 p.m. Police said the unit, Marine 5, found Monahan intoxicated. In addition, officers found a 9-millimeter handgun, which, police said, Monahan did not have a permit for.
Police also said that Monahan had an open warrant for third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle dating back to January 2009. Monahan was scheduled to be arraigned on May 10 at First
District Court in Hempstead.
