At 11:12 a.m. Monday, Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano announced that he has lifted the Aug. 26 evacuation order for residents living in storm surge zones on the north and south shores of the County.
"With Hurricane Irene assessment and recovery underway and nursing homes and hospitals reopened, I am officially lifting the evacuation order," said Mangano. "I remind all residents to use caution upon reoccupying homes and neighborhoods as power lines may still be down."
The public shelter at Nassau Community College remains open for any resident who is unable to reoccupy their home and unable to find a friend or family member who resides locally.
