Nicole Alabre, licensed practical nurse supervisor at Rockville Centre’s Maple Pointe Assisted Living was awarded the prestigious Nurse of the Year Award at the 2018 New York State Center for Assisted Living banquet on June 27.

An employee since 2015, Alabre brings “lead-by-example to a new level,” according to Tammy Marshall, executive director of Maple Pointe. “She takes initiative, identifies problems and resolves concerns independently and efficiently,” she added. “Our residents receive amazing care, support and advice.”

In the course of one month, Alabre properly evaluated strokes suffered by two residents and immediately called the police on her cell phone from the residents’ apartments. Since quick action after a stroke can make all the difference in treatment and recovery, her immediate response helped each resident quickly recover. Both have no residual ailments from the stroke and are now back home at Maple Pointe.

“There are really no words to express my gratitude for all she has done for our residents, families and staff,” Marshall said.
