Marie Fasig, a native New Yorker who is now a resident of Maple Pointe Assisted Living on Maple Avenue, celebrated her 103rd birthday surrounded by family and friends.
Rockville Centre Mayor Francis X. Murray presented her with a proclamation declaring a day in her honor.
Born in Brooklyn on July 27, 1913, to parents of German descent, Fasig worked first in a silk mill, then for Pfizer in Brooklyn manufacturing pills and capsules. She retired at age 70. She was married for many years to her husband, John. They had three sons.
After outliving her husband and all three sons, her family convinced her that assisted living would be a good option for her. She has been at Maple Pointe since 2010.
“The Village of Rockville Centre is inspired by her long life and offers her sincere best wishes for continued good health, happiness and an overflowing abundance of love and joy,” said Murray in his proclamation.
