The New York State Center for Assisted Living has chosen art by two residents of Maple Pointe in Rockville Centre that will appear in next year’s “Art from the Heart” wall calendar.
Roz Lieberman, who has won prior awards for her work, was chosen for her depiction of children playing in a circle. Esther Cohen’s rendering of swans on a peaceful lake earned her the distinction.
Both ladies have been residents of the assisted living center on Maple Avenue for six years.
The works were chosen from 94 entries submitted by 60 senior facilities. A total of 13 were chosen for the calendar — one for each month, as well as the cover.
Lieberman is a retired nurse who doesn’t consider herself an artist, but rather someone who is simply inspired to draw. Her winning piece was sparked by memories of children playing in the yard.
Cohen started creating art later in life, and painting is now her passion. The peaceful interaction of birds and the beauty of swans gliding effortlessly on the water inspired her winning piece.
