Veterans Day, originally created to celebrate the end of World War I, is now a time to remember veterans and the sacrifices they have made to preserve this nation's freedom.
An estimated 75 to 100 people turned out for the Merricks' Veterans Day ceremony, held at the Merrick Avenue war monument in North Merrick, on the green just north of Camp Avenue Elementary School. In the audience were numerous young children from the TLC Day Care Center in Merrick. The North Merrick Fire Department and Boy Scouts served as the color guard.
