Mayor To Be Honored

Murray was selected as honoree because he is nearing twenty years of service as mayor of the village, and has been very active in the parish. "This is a great opportunity to recognize the mayor for all of his efforts in the community," said Barbara Morrissey publicity chairperson for the event.
He is a lifelong resident of Rockville Centre, and has been mayor since 1987. Murray has also been active in the Volunteer Fire Department for nearly 55 years, and serves on the Rockville Centre Community Fund as its chief fundraiser.
Mayor Murray graduated from St. Agnes High School, he currently serves as a Eucharistic Minister and lector for the parish. He also has been active in the Bishop's Annual Appeal fundraiser and served on the Bishop's fundraising committee for the Diocesan High
Schools.
Murray and his wife, Mary Lou, have been married for fifty-seven years and are the parents of eight children, and have twenty-six grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.
"I was very surprised when the Monsignor told me about the award," said Murray "having spent my entire life as a member of the parish I am very honored."
Proceeds from the event will go to benefit the general parish fund. The fund is used throughout the year for community service, and the maintenance of church buildings.
The celebration will take place at the St. Agnes Parish Center on Saturday Oct. 29, and is open to the public. For more information call 766-0205.
