NEW YORK, NY, JULY 20, 2018 — Metro New York area businesses, community members, and families are putting their muscle behind finding urgently needed treatments and cures for muscular dystrophy, ALS and related diseases that severely limit strength and mobility at the 2018 Muscle Walk on October 27th to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) of Metro NY.
The high-energy, Halloween-themed event will be held at the Queens Botanical Garden from 10 AM to 1 PM. Guests will enjoy a day in costume complete with a 3K walk route, live entertainment, and activities for the whole family, all while raising critical funds and awareness to help kids and adults in the Metro NY area with life-threatening muscle-debilitating diseases live longer and grow stronger.
Prior to the event, participants will lead and join fundraising teams. Top teams will be eligible for special recognition, awards, and prizes. Many will be hosting their own fundraising events in addition to the popular walk.
“The Muscle Walk originated as a program by our families and for our families. This year we’re going back to basics and putting the power of advocacy back in their hands.” says event coordinator, Lisa Gueldenzopf.
Since 2011, the Muscle Walk has raised more than $35 million to support individuals and families throughout the US with life-enhancing resources and services.
Contributions also help MDA’s efforts in funding groundbreaking research and programs, including support groups and more than 150 MDA Care Centers across the country. There are seven MDA Care Centers just in the Metro NY area. Funds raised also help send more than 150 local kids to “the best week of the year” at MDA Summer Camp at no cost to their families.
To register for the Muscle Walk or for more information about MDA’s services, please contact the Metro NY MDA office at (212) 682-5272 or visit www.musclewalkmda.org/metrony.
