Book Fair
The Jewish Community Center of West Hempstead will host a Book, Music and Movie Fair on Thursday, July 16 from noon to 9 p.m., and Friday, July 17 and Sunday, July 19 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The center will have a preview sale on Thursday, July 16 from 10 a.m. to noon. Blood Drive
The Our Lady of Lourdes Parish’s Blood Drive will be held on Monday, July 20 from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. The drive will be in the Our Lady of Lourdes School’s hall on Park Boulevard in Malverne. Walk-Ins are welcome. For more information, call (516) 887-4560.
Clambake
The American Legion Post 44 in Malverne will host its annual Clambake on Saturday, August 8 at 4 p.m. This is an all you can eat event. Clams, hamburgers, hot dogs, soda, beer and more will be served. Adults are $20 and children are $6. Old-Time fun
The Malverne Historical and Preservation Society will host an Old-Time BBQ on Sunday, Aug. 9 from 1 to 4 p.m. There will be tasty food and raffles for your enjoyment. Admission is $10.
A musical
The St. Thomas Apostle Summer Theatre will present its 12th summer season musical production, “Bye, Bye Birdie” on Friday, August 7 and Saturday, August 8 at 8 p.m. and on Sunday, August 9 at 2p.m. in the school’s Msgr. Smith Auditorium in West Hempstead. With a cast and crew of more than 70 teens, ages 12 to 19, this year’s production promises to be a night filled with music and laughter. Tickets are $12. Matinee Movie
An afternoon movie will be shown every Monday at 2 p.m. Schedule is as follows: “He’s Just Not That Into You” on July 20 and “Hotel for Dogs” on July 27.
Movie for the kids
A children’s movie for kids ages 3 and older will be shown every Wednesday in July at 2 p.m. Schedule is as follows: “The Little Mermaid: Ariel's Beginning” on July 22.
Pre-School Storytime
A Pre-School Storytime will be held on Monday, July 20 at 2 p.m. Children ages 3 1/2 to 5, who are not starting kindergarten, can come to the library to enjoy some stories just for them.
Kids time
A Time for Kids will be held on Monday, July 20 from 10 to 11 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Children ages 18 months to 5 can come to either session to enjoy an hour of dancing, singing, stories and a craft.
Book discussion
A Fourth Grade Book Discussion will be held on Tuesday, July 21 at 3 p.m. Children headed into the fourth grade will have the opportunity to discuss a book. Volunteers from the library’s Teen Advisory Group will help lead the discussion.
Book club
A Tuesday Night Book Club will be held on July 21 from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. The novel “Bergdorf Blondes” by Plum Sykes will be discussed.
Family fun
A Family Pajama Storytime will be held on Wednesday, July 22 at 7 p.m. Families with children ages 3 to 7can come to library to listen to some stories.
Decorate a bag
A Children’s Tote Bag Decorating program for kids in kindergarten through second grade will be held on Friday, July 24 at 2:30 p.m. The library supplies the bag and paints, and you bring the creativity.
Teen Chess Workshop
A Teen Chess Workshop for All Levels will be held on Monday, Aug. 3 from 7 to 8 p.m. This will be for teens ages 10 to 18.

A Carribean Jewelry Workshop will be held on Thursday, July 16 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Learn how to make caribbean jewelry with beads and charms.

Representatives from state Sen. Kemp Hannon’s office will visit the library on Monday, July 20 from 10 a.m. to noon.
Yoga
A Yoga class will be held on Monday, July 20 from noon to 1:15 p.m. Joe Cilmi will teach yoga poses and breathing techniques. The cost is $27.
Exercise class
An Exercise Class will be held on Tuesday, July 21 from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m. This exercise class is for those with arthritis or fibromyalgia. The cost is $16.
Come and dance
A Belly Dancing class will be held on Tuesday, July 21 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Want to learn how to belly dance? The cost is $20 and it must be payable by check.
Spanish-English storytime
A Spanish-English Storytime will be held on Tuesday, July 21 from 7 to 7:45 p.m. Children aged 3-6 can join the library for stories, songs and a craft. Parents are welcome as well.
Playtime
A Playtime event will be held on Wednesday, July 22 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Stop by with your 1, 2, or 3 year old to play in the library’s program room.

A Wii Bowling and Game Day for Seniors will be held on Fridays, July 17 at 2 p.m.

Dance series
A Hip-Hop Workshop Dance Series for teens in seventh through 12th grade will be held on Thursdays, July 16, 23 and 30 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Learn the newest dance steps and some old ones too in this four week dance series.
Letter class
A Lazy Letters class for teens entering seventh through 12 grade will be held on Monday, July 20 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Teens are invited to come to the library to learn how to make lazy letters and design and address personalized envelopes and note cards.

thrift shop, located at Park Boulevard and Sheehy Place in Malverne, is open on Wednesdays from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and on the first Saturdays of the month from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. For more information, call (516) 599-1269.
Malverne Community Presbyterian Church’s
thrift shop is open Wednesdays from 10 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. and the first Saturday of each month from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. in the church hall on Nottingham Road.
The Lucky Finds Boutique
at Shopper’s Village is open every Friday through Sunday. The boutique is a trendy consignment and resale shop for designer labels and brand name clothing, shoes and accessories. The shop is located at 128 Yvette Court on the first level in Shopper’s Village.
