Book Fair
The Jewish Community Center of West Hempstead will host a Book, Music and Movie Fair on Thursday, July 16 from noon to 9 p.m., and Friday, July 17 and Sunday, July 19 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The center will have a preview sale on Thursday, July 16 from 10 a.m. to noon. Clambake
The American Legion Post 44 in Malverne will host its annual Clambake on Saturday, August 8 at 4 p.m. This is an all you can eat event. Clams, hamburgers, hot dogs, soda, beer and more will be served. Adults are $20 and children are $6. Matinee Movie
An afternoon movie will be shown every Monday at 2 p.m. Schedule is as follows: “The Day the Earth Stood Still” on June 22 and “Seven Pounds” on June 29.
Movie for the kids
A children’s movie for kids ages 3 and older will be shown every Wednesday in July at 2 p.m. Schedule is as follows: “Tale of Despereaux“ on July 8, “Bedtime Stories” on July 15 and “The Little Mermaid: Ariel's Beginning” on July 22.
Pre-School Storytime
A Pre-School Storytime will be held on Mondays, July 13 and 20 at 2 p.m. Children ages 3 1/2 to 5, who are not starting kindergarten, can come to the library to enjoy some stories just for them.
Teen Chess Workshop
A Teen Chess Workshop for All Levels will be held on Monday, July 13 from 7 to 8 p.m. There will be two sessions for teens ages 10 to 18. The second session will be held on Aug. 3.
Tie-Dyeing
A Tie-Dyeing class will be held on Thursday, July 16 at 2:30 p.m. Come tie-dye a shirt (or pillow case, etc)! You supply the item and the library will supply the rest. For children ages 3 and older accompanied by an adult.
Teen Photo Workshop
A Teen Photo Workshop will be held on Monday, July 20 from 7 to 8 p.m. This class is for teens in sixth grade and up. Come and get a free disposable camera and some valuable tips from professional photographer and Malverne resident Susan Grieco.

Yoga
A Yoga class will be held on Mondays, July 6 and 13 from noon to 1:15 p.m. Joe Cilmi will teach yoga poses and breathing techniques. The cost is $27.
Come and dance
A Belly Dancing class will be held on Tuesday, July 7 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Want to learn how to belly dance? The cost is $20 and it must be payable by check.
Storytime for the kids
A Pajama Storytime for kids 3 to 5 will be held on Monday, July 6 from 7 to 7:30 p.m. Come stories, songs and a craft. Bring your teddy bear, a grown-up and wear your pajamas.
Playdough fun
A Playdough Play program will be held on Tuesday, July 7 from 10 to 11 a.m. Children ages 3 & 4 can have fun making shapes with fingers or cookie cutters.
Spanish-English storytime
A Spanish-English Storytime will be held on Tuesday, July 7 from 7 to 7:45 p.m. Children aged 3-6 can join the library for stories, songs and a craft. Parents are welcome as well.
Tie-Dying
A Tie-Dying class will be held on Thursday, July 9 at 7 p.m. Children in grades 4 and 5 can learn the craft of tie-dying and make a shirt all on their own. The cost is $2.
Infants and parents
An Infants and Parents class for babies between 1 to 12 months will be held on Friday, July 10 from 10 to 11 a.m. Join the library’s specialist who will guide you and your baby in bonding, massage and play.
Exercise class
An Exercise Class will be held on Tuesday, July 14 from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m. This exercise class is for those with arthritis or fibromyalgia. The cost is $16.
Playtime

Come and garden
Children ages 3 to 6 can come to the library every Friday from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. to explore the art of gardening.
Concert series
A Backyard Concert Series will be held on Mondays in July and August at 6:45 p.m. Schedule is as follows: Howard Hewett on July 6, Anita Baker on July 20, The Whispers on Aug. 3 and The Temptations on Aug. 17.
Toddler Nights
Toddler Nights for children ages 2 to 6 will be held every Thursday from 6 to 7 p.m.
Teen Crafts
Teens can come to the library to make a scrapbook to fill with their summer memories on Tuesday, July from 4:30 to 5:45 p.m.
Teen Discussion
Teens in seventh to 12 grade can join guest speaker Vera Miles on Monday, July 13 from 6 to 7 p.m. for a positive and empowering discussion about their own personal beliefs. Refreshments will be served.
Wii Bowling
A Wii Bowling and Game Day for Seniors will be held on Fridays, July 3 and 17 at 2 p.m.
Computer help
Starting on Monday, July 6, patrons can sign-up for an one-hour appointment for a one-on-one session with a librarian on the computer. You can receive help with e-mail and internet surfing.
Babysitting workshop
The library will host a Babysitting/First Aid Workshop on Monday, July 6 from 1 to 3 p.m. for teens in seventh to 12 grade. All teens should bring a doll or stuffed animal to the program.
Storytime
Storytime for children will be held on Fridays, July 17, 24 and 31 and August 14 and 21 from 1 to 2 p.m.
Thrift Shops
Our Lady of Lourdes Church’s
thrift shop, located at Park Boulevard and Sheehy Place in Malverne, is open on Wednesdays from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and on the first Saturdays of the month from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. For more information, call (516) 599-1269.
Malverne Community Presbyterian Church’s
thrift shop is open Wednesdays from 10 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. and the first Saturday of each month from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. in the church hall on Nottingham Road.
The Lucky Finds Boutique
at Shopper’s Village is open every Friday through Sunday. The boutique is a trendy consignment and resale shop for designer labels and brand name clothing, shoes and accessories. The shop is located at 128 Yvette Court on the first level in Shopper’s Village.
