Voter registration
The Malverne School District is holding voter registration on Thursday, May 14 from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Malverne High School and from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the administration building.
Around town    
Food drive
The Jewish Community Center of West Hempstead is hosting a Food Drive all year long. The center is asking Long Islanders for non-perishable food products in order to help fill the depleted inventory in area food pantries. Drop off your donations to the center, 711 Dogwood Avenue, near the entrance at the side door. Each time the bin is full, the food will immediately be donated. Get your car cleaned
The Sea Scout Ship 26 Boy Scouts of America will host its Car Wash fundraiser on Saturday, May 16 at West Hempstead High School from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The cost is $5 per vehicle. Proceeds will help the youth participate in a High Adventure Canoe trip through the Canadian Wilderness.
Trash and Treasure Sale
The Malverne Historical and Preservation Society will host its Trash and Treasure Sale on Saturday, May 16 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Vendors and treasure seekers are needed. The cost is $25 per space, which provides a vendors supply table. The rain date is the following day.
Information for veterans
The American Legion Cathedral Post in West Hempstead will host a Veterans Health Information Night on Tuesday, May 19 at 8 p.m. Marge O'Malley, the community relations coordinator of Northport VA Medical Center, will explain veteran medical benefits, enrollment for veterans hospital care, upgrading veterans ID cards and answer any questions veterans or their spouses may have. An afternoon movie will be shown every Monday at 2 p.m. Schedules is as follows: “Flash of Genius” on May 18 and “Last Chance Harvey” on June 1.
Tales for the children
Folk Tales for Pre-School Children will be held on Monday, May 18 from 1:30 to 2:15 p.m. This will be a session of International folk tales that will entertain and delight
Baby Lapsit
A Baby Lapsit program for babies ages 1-15 months will be held on Tuesday, May 19 from 1 to 1:30 p.m. There are stories, songs, movement and fun.
Storytime for the dogs
A Tail Waggin’ Tutors: Reading to Dogs program will be held on Tuesday, May 26 from 4 to 6 p.m. Kids in kindergarten through fourth grade will have the opportunity to read to certified and trained therapy dogs.
Barbershop Quartet to perform
The Barbershop Quartet will perform on Tuesday, June 2 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Come and see them perform.

An Exercise class will be held on Tuesday, May 19 and 26 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. This class is for those with arthritis or fibromyalgia. The cost is $14.

Manage your debt
A Debt Management Cash Flow Game program will be held on Thursday, May 14 at 6:45 p.m. Come to the library and play the Cash Flow Game and learn about money and finance in a fun, interactive environment to make more informed choices about money.
Hook up your socks
A Crazy Socks program will be held on Tuesday, May 19 from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Children can come to decorate socks. Supplies will be provided.
Woodcarver exhibit
Artist’s Merle Williams will display his wood carvings in the library during a reception on Saturday, May 16 from 2 to 4 p.m. Williams will be working on a new carving while you watch.
Learn about reverse mortgages
A Reverse Mortgage class will be held on Tuesday, May 19 at 11 a.m. Ms. Lornell Brown of Guyasamin Funding Solution will explain all the various types of reverse mortgages. Bring your questions and they will be answered.
Scrap Booking class
Children between ages 8 and 12 are invited to learn more about capturing and saving their personal memories on Wednesdays, May 20 and 27 from 5:45 to 6:45 p.m.

A Funeral Explained program will be held on Thursday, May 21 at 6:45 p.m. Fred Sorrentiono, of Barnes-Sorrentino Funeral Home, will explain all the details of setting up a funeral.
Relationship class
A Building Trust in a Relationship class will be held on Tuesday, May 26 at 6:45 p.m. Behavior specialist, Bob Tedesco, will return to explain the importance of trust in a relationship. He will offer tips and strategies to the registered patrons.
Entrepreneur program
A Entrepreneur program will be held on Wednesday, May 27 at 6:45 p.m. This program will give an overview of the topics that will be covered during a three-part entrepreneur program in June.
