of Education
The board will hold its next meeting on business meeting on Tuesday, March 10 in the West Hempstead High School video conference room at 7:30 p.m. This will be a instructional program budget workshop meeting.
Valley Stream District 13
The Board of Education will hold its next meeting on Monday, March 16 at the James A. Dever School at 8 p.m.
Malverne Village Board
The board will hold its next meeting on Wednesday, April 1 at Village Hall at 7:30 p.m.
MOM meeting
The Mothers of Malverne will hold its next meeting on Thursday, March 5 at Malverne Village Hall at 7:30 p.m. The group meets monthly from September to June to provide a social and support network for mothers of young children as well as events for kids.
Breakfast Club meeting
The Long Island Breakfast Club will hold its next meeting on Saturday, March 21 at the Ronald McDonald House in New Hyde Park at 9 a.m. Kenny Moore, co-author of “The CEO and the Monk: One Company’s Journey to Profit and Purpose,” will be the guest speaker. The founders of the club are from West Hempstead.

Food drive
The Jewish Community Center of West Hempstead is hosting a Food Drive all year long. The center is asking Long Islanders for non-perishable food products in order to help fill the depleted inventory in area food pantries. Drop off your donations to the center, 711 Dogwood Avenue, near the entrance at the side door. Each time the bin is full, the food will immediately be donated. The West Hempstead and Franklin Square Association of Girl Scouts will host its 13th annual Community Food Drive until March 15. The drop off locations in West Hempstead: are West Hempstead Public Library, St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Capital One Bank on Hempstead Avenue and Capital One Bank on Hempstead Turnpike.
Music concert
Music band Gathering Time will perform at a concert at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Central Nassau in Garden City on March 6 at 8 p.m. The band, which includes Malverne resident and "The Ballad of Malverne Mel" composer, Stuart Markus, will perform songs from its recently released album, "Songs of Hope and Freedom" as well as songs slated for future albums.
Children’s carnival
St. Thomas the Apostle School in West Hempstead will host a Children’s Winter Carnival for kids in kindergarten through sixth grade on Friday, March 6 from 7 to 9 p.m. The games are 25 cents per game, a whale ride is $1 per ride and a chinese auction ticket is $1 per ticket. There will be face painting, prizes, refreshments and more.
Volleyball game
The West Hempstead Education Association will host a Teacher vs. Teacher, School vs. School Volleyball game on Friday, March 6 at West Hempstead High School from 6 to 9 p.m. Tickets are $5. There will be raffles, giveaways and more. Tickets can be purchased at West Hempstead schools and at the door. All of the proceeds will go to the association's Scholarship Fund for WHHS seniors.
Spring production
West Hempstead High School will present the musical, “The Wizard of Oz” on March 13 and 14 at 7 p.m. Tickets are $8 in advance and $10 at the door. For tickets or more information, contact Mr. Albinder at (516) 390-3251.
Children’s Carnival
The Ladies Auxiliary of Malverne American Legion Post 44 will host a free Children’s Carnival on Sunday, March 15 from 1 to 5 p.m., at the American Legion on Franklin Avenue in Malverne. There will be games, refreshments and more.
Meet your neighbor
The Malverne Civic Association will host a Come Out and Meet Your Fellow Neighbor event on Tuesday, March 24 at Connelly Station on Hempstead Avenue from 7 to 10 p.m. Free snacks will be provided. For more information, go to malvernecivic.org.
Charity event
Profusion will host its second annual charity event on Thursday, March 26 at the Westbury Manor in Jericho from 6 to 10 p.m. This event will include a reception, dancing, silent memorabilia auction, Chinese auctions and more. Alex Jacobson, president of the Lakewood Stables in West Hempstead, is one of this year’s honorees. Proceeds will benefit The Long Island Breakfast Club and The Center for Hope at Schneider Children’s Hospital. Tickets are $75 per person. Ladies Night Out

An afternoon movie will be shown every Monday at 2 p.m. “The Dark Knight” will be shown on March 9, “Brideshead Revisited” will be shown on March 16, “Ghost Town” will be shown on March 23 and “The Secret Life of Bees” will be shown on March 30.
Jump for Joy
A Jump for Joy program will be held on Fridays, March 6, 13 and 27. Session one for kids 18 to 36 months will be from 10:15 to 11 a.m. and session two for kids 18 months to 5 will be from 11:15 a.m. to noon. The cost is $30.

A Pre School Storytime for 3 1/2 to 5 years will be held on Mondays, March 9, 16 and 23 at 1:30 p.m.
Chocolate workshop
A Chocolate Covered Everything Workshop for teens in sixth through 12 grade will be held on Monday, March 9 from 7 to 8 p.m.
Passport program
A Passport program will be held on March 11 from 11 to 2 p.m. The Town of Hempstead Mobile Passport Service Mobile Van will visit Malverne to process U.S. passport applications. Sign-up at the circulation.
St. Patrick’s Day fun
A PlayHooray for St. Patrick’s Day program for children 18 months to 4 1/2 will be held on Wednesday, March 11 from 1 to 1:45 p.m. Kids can come to sing, dance, play and make a craft. A St. Patrick’s Day Craft: Good Luck Keychain program for kids in kindergarten through fifth grade will be held on Wednesday, March 11 at 4 p.m. This 6-inch beaded keychain features a shamrock bead and will be great for keys or to decorate a backpack.
Tea time
A Victorian Irish Tea will be held on Tuesday, March 24 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Join Chef Barbara Sheridan as she teaches how to serve a proper cup of tea and how to prepare and serve scones, clotte cream, tea bread and tea sandwiches.
SAT practice test
Kaplan Test Prep will give a free four-hour SAT exam on Saturday, March 28 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This is only a practice test, so the scores will not be reported. Students will receive their scores and SAT test secrets during a seminar at the library on Tuesday, April 7 at 7 p.m.

Computer class
E-mail Kindergarten will be held on Tuesday, March 10 from 7 to 9 p.m. In this hands-on workshop you will learn basic Internet skills. The cost is $10.
