West Hempstead Board of Education will hold its next business meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 18 at 7:30 p.m. in the West Hempstead High School video conference room.
Malverne Village Board meets on Wednesday, Nov. 5 at 7:30 p.m. at Village Hall on Church Street.
The Mothers of Malverne or MOM meets on Thursday, Nov. 6 at 7:30 p.m. This meeting will be the organization’s annual Nursery School Night where representatives from area nursery schools will be available to answer questions. The group meets monthly from September to June to provide a social and support network for mothers of young children as well as events for kids. The West Hempstead Rotary Club meets on Thursday, Oct. 30 at 6 p.m. in the West Hempstead Middle School cafeteria. This will be a Rotary Club business card exchange meeting. Light food and drinks will be served.

The Jewish Community Center of West Hempstead’s Nursery School enrollment for the 2008 –09 school year is now under way. The center offers a program enriched with both Judaic and secular studies as well as guest educators and special programs. Special incentives are now being offered for early enrollment. District 12’s Elementary Schools will host their annual Halloween Costume parades on Friday, Oct. 31. Davison Avenue’s will start at 1 p.m. and Maurice W. Downing’s will begin at 2 p.m.
The West Hempstead High School Student Council will host its annual Children's Halloween Party from 3:15 to 5:15 p.m. in the high school’s cafeteria. Children in kindergarten through fifth grade, along with their parents, are invited to attend the festivities. There will be games, prizes, face painting, home baked goods and lots of fun for the kids.
The Malverne High School Scholarship Committee will host its annual Dinner Dance on Thursday, Nov. 6 from 7 to 11 p.m. at the Pompei Restaurant in West Hempstead. Michele C. Reed, the Malverne School District’s physician, has been chosen as this year’s honoree. The cost is $55 per person. Only checks will be accepted. Tickets purchased after Oct. 30 will be $60. All proceeds will go to scholarships for MHS seniors.
West Hempstead High School will host a College Planning for the Student Athlete program on Thursday, Nov. 6 at 7 p.m. in the high school’s auditorium.
The St. Thomas the Apostle School in West Hempstead will host its annual Fall Dinner Dance on Friday, Nov. 14 at 7:30 p.m. at the Chateau Briand in Carle Place. Around Town    
All kids in Malverne and the surrounding areas are encourage to look for orange and black balloons in front of stores along Hempstead Avenue in Malverne on Oct. 31. Members of the Malverne Merchants and Professional Association with balloons in front of their stores will be giving out candy to kids to celebrate Halloween.
Sign-up for Malverne’s annual Holiday Festivities will be on Saturday, Nov. 1 from 9 to 10 a.m. There will be tickets on sale for the Cookie Workshop, Breakfast with Santa, Bowling with Santa and Historical House Gala.

The Malverne Merchants Live Auction will be held on Friday, Nov. 7 at 7 p.m. at the American Legion Hall. Project Enroll Now will host its annual fundraiser on Saturday, Nov. 15 from 1 to 5 p.m., at 44 Rider Ave. in Malverne. There will be home interior, scented candles, handmade, pocketbooks and other items for sale. There will also be free crafts for the kids. Wine, cheese and other refreshments will be served.

The Malverne Civic Association will host a Community E-Cycling Event on Saturday, Nov. 15 from 8 a.m. to noon in the parking lot of the American Legion Hall in Malverne. You can bring cell phones, pagers, computers (laptops, PCs, accessories, etc.), DVD players, VCRs, stereos, printers, handheld electronic toys, fax machines, telephones, copy machines, PDAs, scanners, calculators, answering machines, electric typewriters, cables and radios, car batteries and batteries. A Jump for Joy program will be held on Friday Oct. 31. Join Joyce Oddo for fun-filled sessions of music and movement with your toddler. Session one for kids 18 to 36 months will be from 10:15 to 11 a.m., and session two for kids 18 months to 5 will be from 11:15 a.m. to noon.
Preschool Storytime will be held on Mondays, Nov. 3 and 10 at 1:30 p.m. This will be a special storytime just for children 3 1/2 through 5 years old who are not yet in kindergarten. There will be different kinds of stories read with lots of fun and interaction.
Tail Waggin’ Tutors: Reading to Dogs will be held on Wednesdays, Nov. 5 and 19 from 4 to 6 p.m. Children in kindergarten through fourth grade will have the opportunity to read to certified and trained therapy dogs.
A Gershwin Jazz Concert will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 5 from 6:45 to 8:30 p.m. Come to the library to listen to inspiring instrumental jazz renditions of classics such as “I Got Rhythm,” “Summertime,” “Embraceable You” and many others.

ARRP 55/Alive Defensive Driving program will be held on Monday, Nov. 17 from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. This program is open to people ages 50 and older. There is a $10 fee, which must be paid by check only at the time of registration.
A Yoga for Teens program will be held on Mondays, Dec. 1 and 8 from 7 to 8 p.m. Teens in fifth grade or higher can come to the library to learn how to stretch out, breathe deeply and fully relax. Please wear lose clothing and bring a mat or towel. Sign-up has started.
The Art of Gift Wrapping will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 2 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Learn the proper way to wrap your gifts. Participants will be able to wrap two gifts. The class size is limited to 15 people. Please bring in two gifts that are the size of a shirt or sweater box and a sharp pair of scissors. There is a $10 materials fee, which must be paid at the time of registration.
A Musical Moppets program will be held on Friday, Dec. 5 from 12:30 to 1:15 p.m. Children age 18 months to 3 1/2 accompanied by an adult, can come to the library to sing, dance and play. There will be nursery rhymes, fingerplays, music, movement and more.
A Holiday Present Craft: Coasters program will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 10. Come decorate coasters to make a special holiday gift for a loved one. Children ages 2 1/2 through 5 can come with an adult from 3 to 3:30 p.m., and children in grades kindergarten through sixth can come from 4 to 4:30 p.m. Registration begins Monday, Nov. 10.
