The Elmont Library Board of Trustees meets on June 26 at 8 p.m. at the library, 700 Hempstead Tpke., Elmont.

Special Events
Family Fun Day On May 31 at 10 a.m., in conjunction with the Belmont Stakes Gateway Youth Outreach, Inc. and the Elmont Union Free School District, the Elmont Chamber of Commerce will hold the 7th Annual Family Fun Day at Dutch Broadway School. For children grades 1 through 6 there will be a free hot dog and water, along with games and music. There will also be competitions with ribbons awarded, and face painting. Car Wash The Elmont Dads Club is holding a car wash on May 31, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at both the Dutch Broadway and Covert Avenue schools. A wash will cost $5 per car. Rain date is scheduled for June 1.

Drug and Alcohol Abuse Program to help individuals and families recover from the ravages of substance abuse is available at the Chemical Dependence Treatment Services of Peninsula Counseling Center. Group and individual therapy sessions, adult and adolescent treatment are available at PeninsulaÕs Valley Stream location, 73 S. Eating Disorders Program of Peninsula Counseling Center is forming new groups for bulimia and compulsive over-eating. Individual, group and family therapy are also available for treatment of anorexia, bulimia, binge-eating disorder and compulsive over-eating. Julie Livingston, LCSW, conducts the program at 381 Sunrise Highway, Lynbrook. Call (516) 599-1181 for information.
Teen GirlsÕ Socialization Groups that help build self-confidence, enhance social skills and improve academic performance are offered by Peninsula Counseling Center, 124 Franklin Place, Woodmere. Girls ages 14-15 are led by Kathy Schmitt, LMSW. Girls ages 16-18 are led by Kelly Farrell, LMSW. For more information call (516) 569-6600.

Senior Connections Join us on Thursdays between 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Senior Connections is a program of seniors helping seniors with daily matters such as Healthcare, Social Security, etc. Our representative is a retired teacher and an AARP board member Ethel Baenisch. Come to discuss these important issues with Ethel on Thursdays, in the room near the reference desk.

Bus Trip Join us on June 10 at 11:30 a.m. for a spring bus trip, the Banjo Cruise. Enjoy a day of dining, music and cruising. First, enjoy a delicious lunch at the Old Country Buffet in Bayshore. Then cruise the Great South Bay, along Fire Island and enjoy live banjo music, dancing and sing-a-longs. Registration has already begun. Price is $60 dollars. The bus will be arriving back at 4:30 p.m.

Coney Memories Join us on May 30 at 12:30 p.m. Travel again to Coney Island with Paul Bragandi, an ardent Coney Island historian and memorabila collector. Mr. Bragandi grew up in Brooklyn and started visiting Coney Island when he was seven months old. Join as he shares photographs, video clips and his own recollections. Come early and browse through the photos. All are welcome to attend and share their own memories and stories.

Yoga with Mary Join us on June 2 & 30 at 1 p.m. Enjoy relaxing the body and opening the heart, mind and spirit. Experience classic asanas (postures), meditation, music and chanting in a safe, supportive environment. This is a class suitable for all levels and will help participants learn to listen to their bodies with gentle stretching and breathing. Regular Yoga practice can reduce stress, increase flexibility and enhance overall feeling of wellness.

You will have the opportunity to make new friends and most importantly it will energize your brain. Bus Trip On June 11, we are going to the Platzl Brauhaus, upstate in Pamona, New York. It will be a day of eating, live music, games, dancing and camaraderie with your Franklin Square friends and neighbors. The cost of this all-inclusive full day of enjoyment is $70. Seating is limited. Registration will begin on March 10, and end May 9.
