Special events
Family Game Night.
St. Catherine of Sienna Church in Franklin Square is hosting a free Family Game Night on March 7 at 7 p.m. in the auditorium, 990 Holzheimer St. All are invited to gather as a community for some friendly competition playing St. Cate¹s version of Pictionary, Survivor, trivia games and more. A toddler activity corner will be available for those too little to participate. Donations of refreshments (juice, water, cookies, cupcakes, chips) are encouraged.
Historical Society garage sale March 24.
The Franklin Square Historical Society¹s annual garage sale will be on March 24 from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. at Ascension Lutheran Church, 145 Franklin Ave. All proceeds will benefit the construction of the Franklin Square Historical Society Museum.
Young widows meetings.
The Young Widows and Widowers Social Group, a non-sectarian, non-profit organization of widows and widowers between the ages of 40 and 65, meet on the third Wednesday of every month from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at St. Joseph¹s Roman Catholic Church, Franklin Avenue and Fifth Street, Garden City. who are 55 and over are invited to an interactive workshop entitled ³My Time Is Your Time² on the third Tuesday of every month at the Catholic Charities Franklin Square Senior Center, 619 Fenworth Boulevard, Franklin Square. Network, share and enlighten your knowledge on all matters that concern you and your family.

Tax help.
The Town of Hempstead Department of Senior Enrichment will be available for free tax help for seniors every from 12 p.m.-3 p.m. through April 16.
Senior Connections.
Senior Connections, a program of seniors helping seniors with daily matters such as healthcare and Social Security, is offered on Thursdays between 10 a.m. and noon. Retired teacher and AARP board member Ethel Baenisch leads the discussion in the room near the reference desk.

Free tax assistance.
Throughout February, the library will offer tax assistance to senior citizens from 10 a.m-2 p.m. It is sponsored by AARP and registration for appointments begins in late January. At the turn of the 20th century, Viennese painter Gustav Klimt was known as the painter of women. Louise Cella Caruso provides insight into his colorful life on March 13 at 2 p.m.
Freedom Denied: A Story.
After the bombing of Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941, Japanese-Americans were evacuated from their homes along the Pacific coast and imprisoned. Mitsue Salador, an American of Japanese ancestry, will share her experiences and those of her family and friends in Assembly Centers and Relocation Camps during World War II. Since 1949, Mitsue has worked as a Registered nurse in New York City, taught science in Massachusetts, married and settled on Long Island where she worked as an elementary school teacher. March 21 at 2 p.m.
Rose culture.
As part of the lecture series by master gardeners from the Cornell Cooperative Extension of Nassau County, a seminar on rose culture is on March 22 at 7 p.m. Lecture includes planting, fertilizer, pruning and disease and insect control.
