Twenty-four Memorial Junior High School students and five graduates of the school who now attend Central High School attended the Academy of Character Education’s Youth Leader Summit at the Sage Colleges earlier this month.
Some of the students were selected for the trip based on teacher recommendations, and others participate in the Breakfast Club informational program at the school.
The students attended workshops about topics like finding personal strength, suicide prevention, changing your mindset to affect change in the world, respect for different sexual orientations and mindful self-management.
The event featured guest speakers that included Holocaust survivor Kati Preston and Dr. Stephen Birchak, who addressed bullying and being independent of others’ judgments.
