Mercy’s Friends raise $125k

Gray skies and light afternoon showers didn’t dampen the spirit of generosity of sponsors and players that enabled The Friends of Mercy Medical Center to raise more than $125,000 at their 30th annual Golf Classic — an increase of more than 75 percent from 2010.

A capacity field of 150 golfers enjoyed play on July 25 at the Cherry Valley Club in Garden City, followed by a dinner honoring Peter Quick, former president of the American Stock Exchange and former president and CEO of Quick & Reilly brokerage, who currently serves as chairman of Mercy’s Board of Trustees.

The Golf Classic was co-chaired for a second consecutive year by Joseph and Thomas Graham of Rockville Centre, co-founders of JJT Energy, a firm supplying natural gas to the commercial and residential market.

Among the many supporters were Master Sponsor Mary Pederson; Sustaining Sponsor Neurological Surgery, P.C. and Event Sponsors Hunter EMS Ambulance, Partners Executive Transportation and Craig and Nancy Gibson. The event’s numerous other sponsors are acknowledged on the Golf Classic web site: www.MercyGolf.com.

Proceeds from this year’s event will support a newly constructed Friends of Mercy Physicians Center for members of the medical staff, along with updates to the hospital’s medical education facilities.
