The man, who was described as about 40 years old and 5 feet 8 to 5 feet 10, got away with an undisclosed amount of cash, running off through the parking lot behind the old Wolfies deli, according to Detective Sgt. Gary Schriffen of the Nassau County Police Department's Robbery Squad.
Police said the man never revealed a gun during the robbery. According to officials, he wore a dark blue jumpsuit, dark baseball cap and light surgical gloves.
The bank immediately shut down after the robbery. At about 2 p.m., all of its shades were drawn, and a pair of police officers stood in the foyer speaking with bank officials. Three police cars were parked out front, two by the bank and one by Wolfie's. Meanwhile, Fleet customers continued to stream up to the bank's front entrance, only to find a small white sign that said the bank was temporarily closed "due to an emergency."
Police requested that anyone with information about this or any other crime call Nassau County Police Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.
