The Merrick branch of the Roslyn Savings Bank, located at 2111 Merrick Ave., was robbed twice at gunpoint in the last three weeks. Nassau County robbery squad detectives say the same man is responsible for both heists, as well as bank robberies in Baldwin and East Meadow.
According to police, on Monday, September 24, at 10:20 a.m. a man entered the Rosyln Savings Bank, approached a teller, showed a handgun and demanded cash. After taking a sum of money, the subject fled on foot through the bank's rear entrance.
Not two weeks later, on Saturday, Oct. 6, police say the same man entered the branch again and robbed the bank in the same manner. This robbery took place at 10:50 a.m. Police have not said how much was cash taken in the two robberies.
The suspect is believed to have also recently robbed the North Fork Bank on Grand Avenue in Baldwin and the Dime Savings Bank on Bellmore Avenue in East Meadow. He is described as a white male in his 40's, 5' 8"-5' 11" tall with a medium build. The suspect may be driving a dark-colored vehicle, possibly a two-door Cadillac, with tinted rear window. He is armed with a handgun.
