Julie Marchesella, festival chairwoman, said the weekend-long event will kick off with a battle of the bands on Friday night, Oct. 1, at the Town of Hempstead showmobile on Merrick Avenue.
Merrick Avenue will be closed from 11 a.m. and 6 p.m., and fair attendees will find rides, crafts, vendors, sales by local merchants, free goody bags, costumed characters and blow-up rides. Additionally, two competitions will be held at the fair, a pizza-eating and a bubble gum-blowing contest.
The fair acts a fund-raiser for the chamber's holiday lights program and is being sponsored by the Long Island Power Authority, state Assemblyman David McDonough, Prudential Douglas Elliman Realty, Roseland Savings Bank and Citibank.
