A fantasy world full of monsters, adventures and dreamlands is exactly what a 4-year-old with a wild imagination conjures up. However, most 4-year-olds don’t record it all. Merokean twins Nicole and Jett Rosen, now 12, began crafting a tale of a boy, Zachary, who jumps into a magical puddle and encounters adventures galore. At age 4, the twins dictated the story as their father, Keith Rosen, jotted the tale down. “The Magic Puddle” was born.

“My friend actually told me about a time he went swimming in a puddle,” Jett said. “I kept thinking about it and I thought, ‘What if the puddle was a magic puddle?’”

“We were four at the time,” Nicole added. “So we just told the story and our dad wrote it down for us.”

“I was sort of their scribe,” said Keith, a seasoned author himself. He has published five books. His next, titled “Own Your Day,” is set to be released later this month. “It’s a time management book,” he said. Most of his publications focus on inspiring others to fulfill leadership roles in a work environment.

Although Rosen focused the discussion on his children, he has been featured as one of the five most influential executive coaches by Inc. magazine and Fast Company. He’s been featured in The New York Times, Selling Power and Fortune, among several other publications. He was even featured on the hit AMC show “Mad Men.”

Taking a leap in the magic puddle

“I was cleaning out my files one day and I found their story,” Rosen said. “I saw a lot of potential in it. So I dug it out and they looked over it, and first they laughed about it. They sort of reminisced a little bit about the writing process. Then we decided it would be cool to finish it.”

Once the twins revisited the creativity of their 4-year-old minds, they decided to bring their older sister, Jessica, 16, into the mix. “Jess is our editor,” Jett said. “She looked over everything and suggested new ideas along the way.”
