During his six weeks of training, Irizarry studied Air Force mission, organization as well as military customs and courtesies. He also performed drill and ceremony marches and was trained in rifle marksmanship, field exercises and human relations, among other areas. By completing basic training, Irizarry -- who graduated with honors -- also earned credits towards his associate degree at the Community College of the Air Force. He is the son of West Hempstead residents Joseph and Marie Irizarry.
