Their investigation led them to a room occupied by three people: two men and a 16-year-old girl.
Officers immediately arrested the two men, Guadalupes Diaz, 37, and David H. Zelaya, 22, both of Uniondale. While the investigation into what happened in the room continues, police have said that Diaz has been charged with statutory rape (rape in the third degree) due to the age of the victim, while Zelaya has been slapped with more serious charges: first degree rape and first degree sodomy.
Both men were taken into custody and arraigned Friday in Hempstead, according to Det. Scallone of the Fifth Squad.
The girl was taken to Mercy Medical Center and treated for her injuries. She has since been released.
