The eight-day search for a missing man has ended.
After the Herald went to press on Tuesday night, police confirmed that a Russell Gardens man reported missing for eight days, and may have made his way through East Meadow and Elmont, was located in Brooklyn.
Keith Siegel, 47, who detectives said has a "diminished mental capacity" and requires medication, had been missing since he left his Russell Gardens group home on the morning of June 29.
Siegel was found in "apparent good condition," police said on Bond and Fulton Streets in Brooklyn at about 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday night. He was transported to North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset for further observation, cops said.
Nassau police said last week that Siegel had been spotted in Elmont and East Meadow on July 1. He was first seen with his bicycle at Belmont Racetrack in Elmont, sometime between 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. Shortly after that, he was reported seen riding his blue Schwinn Sierra bike on Hempstead Turnpike in East Meadow.
Siegel's group home is on Melbourne Road in Russell Gardens, a village in northwestern Nassau at the border of Queens, and is located more than seven miles from Belmont and about 12 miles from Hempstead Turnpike in East Meadow.
Two days later, police released new information that Siegel may have also been spotted on Northern Boulevard in the Great Neck or Flushing area.
