Long Beach is gearing up for yet another snowstorm a month after the city was buried in nearly two feet of snow. The National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning from 10 a.m. on Wednesday through 6 a.m. Thursday.
Possible heavy snow accumulations of five to nine inches is anticipated, with wind gusts as high as 36 mph. The Weather Service said heavy snow and sleet is expected to hit the area, with moderate to heavy snow on Wednesday afternoon with a mix of snow, sleet and rain, and possibly more snow in the evening.
The Long Beach School District cancelled all afternoon and evening activities. The Recreation Center’s Yoga, Boot Camp, Basketball, Wrestling and Swim Team practices for Wednesday evening are cancelled.
City snow crews are out to keep the streets in the best condition possible, according to the city’s website. A winter storm warning means severe winter weather conditions are expected with dangerous travel conditions. The city is advising residents to only travel in an emergency.
