Mount Sinai South Nassau hospital's 'Vaxmobile' visits Molloy College in Rockville Centre

Mount Sinai South Nassau’s “Vaxmobile” made its first visit to a college campus on Monday when it came to Molloy College to administer doses to students and staff members.

Hospital staff visited the school from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. to perform inoculations at Hays Hall. All students, faculty and other employees on campus are required to be up to date on Covid-19 vaccines for the spring semester.

Molloy slightly delayed the start of the spring semester earlier this month as a precaution due to the prevalence of the Omicron variant.

The college was set to begin its spring semester on Jan. 18, but officials announced on Jan. 5 that it was rescheduling the first day of classs to Jan. 22 for weekend students and Jan. 24 for those who attend on weekdays.

“Given the surge everyone is currently experiencing, we are simply utilizing four discretionary days (snow days) at the beginning of the semester to gain a few more days until classes start,” Ken Young, the school’s assistant vice president of marketing and public relations, wrote in an email to the Herald earlier this month. “This buys us a little more time to allow the anticipated decline of Covid-19 cases to diminish as predicted. The goal is, of course, to help the Molloy community stay as safe as possible.”

To help continue to keep students and staff safe, the school brought in the “Vaxmobile” to help ensure everyone on campus is vaccinated or boosted.

Last Friday, Gov. Kathy Hochul announced that coronavirus cases were declining, falling to 10 percent statewide. Cases have also steadily decreased on Long Island, dipping to 14.4 percent as of Friday.
