Mount Sinai South Nassau has been rated “High Performing” in maternity care for 2025-26 by U.S. News & World Report, marking the hospital’s fourth consecutive year receiving the publication’s highest designation.
Mount Sinai West and Mount Sinai Morningside in Manhattan also earned “High Performing” ratings, reflecting a systemwide strength in maternity services across the Mount Sinai Health System.
Mount Sinai South Nassau is the only hospital on Long Island’s South Shore to receive the top rating, which recognizes better outcomes for mothers and newborns. The hospital has recorded almost 1,900 births so far this year.
“The U.S. News ranking is a recognition of the labor and delivery teamwork that takes place every day,” said Dr. Alan Garely, chair of obstetrics and gynecology at Mount Sinai South Nassau. “Our physicians, nurses, residents and support staff are committed to providing the best outcomes for mothers and their newborns.”
Leaders at Mount Sinai West said their rating reflects improvements that emphasize labor support, reduce unnecessary interventions and strengthen clinical consistency throughout childbirth.
“It’s a great honor to be recognized…as a ‘high performing’ maternity hospital,” said Dr. Joanne Stone, chair of the Raquel and Jaime Gilinski Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Science at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. “The distinction recognizes our physicians, midwives, nurses and staff who are deeply committed to supporting patients and families with clinical excellence, compassion and respect.”
The U.S. News ratings are based on objective measures linked to improved maternal and newborn outcomes, including reduced C-section rates, no early elective deliveries, lower rates of unexpected newborn complications, increased success with vaginal birth after C-section, exclusive breastfeeding promotion, low episiotomy rates, transparency regarding racial and ethnic disparities, and World Health Organization “Baby-Friendly” designation.
“We are proud to earn the U.S. News ‘High Performing’ rating for the fourth consecutive year, but what drives us is the confidence and trust that mothers and their families place in us day in and day out,” said Mount Sinai South Nassau President Dr. Adhi Sharma. “We are the go-to hospital for maternity care on the South Shore.”
Nearly 900 hospitals nationwide submitted data for consideration in this year’s ratings, but fewer than 50 percent earned the “High Performing” designation.
